Irishman, Robert Gray(45) has been shot dead and his driver seriously injured after his car was ambushed in south eastern Nigeria on Thursday.
Mr Gray had worked in Nigeria for quite a number of years as an engineer with Irish company PW Group and was involved in various road construction projects.
It is understood he was working near the Cameroon border, in southeastern Nigeria, when the attack occurred.
Mr Gray was married with two children.
His body is expected to be repatriated back to Ireland next week.
