STYLEWATCH: Dressing To Suit Your Body Shape...THE CORNET

SUITABLE DRESSING FOR THE CORNET BODY SHAPE:

What is a cornet body shape?

Trinny and Susannah’s the Cornet is described as broad shoulders, small boobs, no waist, slim hips and long slim legs.

The Cornet is athletic, slender, sometimes to the point of shapelessness, but always willowy. The taller Cornets end up as models as your almost boyish frame is prized by designers to show off their clothes. For the more pedestrian you’re likely to have slender long limbs that at times can seem almost gangly and a fairly straight up and down torso. Most particular you have very broad shoulders; in fact your shoulders are probably the widest part of you.

Dressing The Cornet:

A Cornet shape is all about angles. Those same angles that make you feel gawky and gangly need to be handled in a way that makes you feel feminine and comfortable. And of course it’s important to balance out your shoulders.
Don’t – wear shapeless clothes to cover up; it will accentuate the issue.
Do – play up the angles in your body. They’re there and echoing those angles can look very feminine.
Don’t – wear anything that will broaden your shoulders as it will emphasize them out of all proportion.
Do – opt for different cuts; asymmetric tops and dresses, angular dresses, patterns that break up the sameness of your torso.
Clothes – what to avoid:

Floaty dresses – a floaty shapeless dress will swathe you in fabric and make your shape disappear. It will emphasise your angularness and you’ll seem gangly and much like a child playing dressup.
Platform shoes – you have delicate ankles and legs, finely shaped and … well fine. A great big platform shoe on the end of your foot is going to make your legs look stick thin.
Three-quarter length sleeves – because you have such long slender limbs its very simple to overemphasis this. Three-quarter length sleeves, which cut midway your forearms will make you look like a gorilla in a shrunk top. Opt for longer or shorter sleeves.
Scooped necklines – a scooped neckline opens up the chest by emphasising the breasts. If you have small breasts, um, it’s going to emphasize that. Again you’ll look like a child playing dressup.
Shoulder pads – shoulder pads widen the shoulders something you most definitely do not need to do. It will throw your balance off and make your hips look tiny.
Clothes – what shapes to look for:

Levi L02 skinny jeansSkinny jeans – you have slender hips and long legs; skinny jeans were made for you. The tapered leg will highlight your hips and thighs and give you the illusion of more curves than their actually are.

Karin cigarette pantCigarette pants – ditto with cigarette pants with the added benefit your legs are long enough to handle being cut off at the ankle. Plus your ankles are lovely so showing them off is an added benefit. Think Audrey Hepburn on a summers day in Paris …

Button placket cable split cowl jumperWide lapel asymmetric jumper – the wide lapel breaks up the expanse of your shoulders to make you seem more in proportion. Then the way the jumper is fitted around your middle highlights the waist and flares over your hips highlighting your curves.
Evie Belle burgunday skirtFlared skirt – a flared skirt comes straight out from the waist and gives shape to your hips. Because a flared skirt works best for someone with a flat belly choose something with netting which will disguise your stomach if you have even a hint of roundness.
Combo day dressAngular dress – you’re an angular shape, and putting a square peg in a square dress is ideal. The hard lines create the illusion of curviness, ironically, and on someone curvier would become somewhat of a caricature. You have the angles to pull off an angular dress and make it look sexy.
Lela Rose pleated cotton-twill dressDraping jersey dress – look for something that is going to create curves. This dress is cinched in at the waist and then flows out over the hips. The draping fabric will cling lovingly to your shape whilst the ruching and folds breakup the up and downess of your body whilst the neckline breaks up the width of your shoulders.
Azzedine Alaia wool flared skirtFluted skirt – a fluted skirts works wonderfully for the Cornet as it hugs your bottom then flares out to give the illusion of curvy hips and thighs.

Jean AvaSlim-heeled shoes – delicate ankles call for a delicate shoe. Opt for something with a slender heel.
